Snap The Perfect Selfie

11:21 PM

According to some people, we are the selfie generation and we should definitely take pride being the generation who has self confidence.

Like everybody else, I take tens of shots for that one perfect one to post online and use as my profile picture on just about every social media I have. There are some tricks I learned along the way that results in better pictures.

  1. Don't take a picture with the camera angled up. Don't tilt your head up way up either.
  2. More often than not, pictures turn out better when you take them slightly above you.
  3. Cloudy days = perfect natural lighting. Avoid harsh lights at all cost!
  4. Be a narcissist, seriously, spend time looking at yourself. Try different angles, different faces, try to part your hair differently.
  5. Rule of thirds. Placing yourself on the top left or top right with your eyeline one third down from the top looks better than taking it with you smack in the middle.
  6. Extend your neck forward. I know it sounds weird but it avoids double chins and it accentuate your jawline.
  7. Smize!
Now that you've got the beautiful picture but something is still missing...

I am aware that you can edit your pictures right on your camera roll but I use another app for that. If you read my last post where I talk about the apps on my iPhone then you caught a glimpse of the apps I have for editing pictures, however, I mainly use just a couple of them since I've long ditched white borders.

Before adding any filters to my picture I use 'Rookie' to adjust the brightness and contrast. I sometimes also adjust the sharpness and saturation.

Now, before I start talking about the filters I use on my instagram pictures, I'd like to mention that I like to keep a theme which basically means I use the same filter just with different strength. In doing so when you look at my instagram feed as a whole they're put together giving the feel as if they're one big picture. [okay that probably did not make any sense. sorry]

Not long ago I used to use the 'glow' filter from Rookie, but as of the moment I am very into the 'Venice Beach' filter from the app called '1967'.

I hope this helps even just by a bit. Comment your favorite pose [not that I wanna try them or anything whaaaat]
