G.R.E.A.T. Escape
1:27 AM
The moment that I've been anxious about has come and gone by and as I am writing this I am laying on my stomach back home.
If I didn't feel like I graduated from high school a week ago, I sure do feel it now. Last Monday, August 17, was my move in day to my college and the quote/slogan on the cover photo above is actually the motto of my college's housing.
My move in time was 9 AM to 1 PM and it's only freshmen moving in that day. I woke up at 8 and I started getting ready then. I am fortunately am housing in an honors apartment which is way better than them freshmen suites. Sure, we wouldn't get as close as they are in those buildings but we sure can move more freely around our space.
I got there around 11 and by then two of my apartment mates, not my actual roommate, were already all settled in. I got there before my roommate did so I got to choose which side I'd be staying at. I chose the left side since I tend to face left when sleeping. I was half way through putting my stuff away when my roommate came.
Around 1 my parents, Lyss, and I went out to McDonalds to grab a bite and then afterwards my dad and Lyss went back home to pick up Lance. My mom stayed for the orientation and barbeque which was not part of the plan at all but I'm so happy she did. When my dad got back he was with my siblings and he brought my toothbrush because I of course would forget that. They left right after and as soon as they did I took a shower and literally realized I forgot to bring deodorant so they had to come back to bring me one.
That first night was brutal. I went out for the Trial of the Tributes event which is basically a welcoming kick back but I only stayed for an hour since I wasn't feeling it. I was in bed by 11 and literally did not fall asleep until 3 even though I wasn't on my phone or ipad. I woke up at 6 the following day.On the second day, or I guess first morning technically, the floor activities started. My apartment mates and I attended the morning one and didn't really enjoy it so we basically skipped all the rest of the week.
On our second night, Nix and I went out to the Blackout Block Party and danced our asses off and I'm talking about there-are-no-other-students-around-so-we're-dancing-with-the-RAs kind of dancing our asses off. That night I finally got my sleep and did not have any time to feel sad about missing my home.
On the third night was the Matador Games which is a complicated game of capture the flag. We played at our college campus but honestly I just ditched as soon as I got there. I went back out around 8 since it was supposed to end at 8:30 and just waited by the finish line with the RA's. I honestly am glad I did because I ended up getting a full case of water for free and as a college student anything free is life. So really, I was the real winner.
On Thursday, Radha visited the campus so we walked around the campus and housing for a good 6 hours, from 8 AM till 2 PM. At night I attended The Gala of the Games but my feet were dead from walking earlier that day that I didn't wear heels and thank goodness I didn't.
I ended up going back in our apartment earlier than I normally would since we have orientation the next day early morning. It's alright though, I got to dress up and dance.
On the 21st we had to wake up at 7 to walk to the campus with our floor for orientation. My apartment mates and I were all placed in different groups. I was in group nine.
The orientation was from 8 AM till 6 PM. It was honestly boring and pretty much stuff I already know about so to make up for it I just took as much free stuff as I could. Also, I found a bae. Can you find my bae that day?
At the end of orientation we watched a performance called Take XXVII which was honestly the best part of the orientation. It was about struggles that we may face during college. The skit that definitely hit it home for me was when this one girl broke down because everybody thinks she has this perfect life just because she never shows her weaknesses and sadness so nobody ever bothers to ask her how she's doing.
My first week of college life, like everything, had its ups and downs. Don't misunderstand, I definitely had fun, but it's so amazing to be back home on my bed this weekend before classes start on Monday.
Fun fact: I did not cry when I moved out or anytime throughout my stay at the dorm but as soon as I saw my siblings playing around in my room my tears just started flowing.
